New Moon, New Me – A Powerful 3 Card Spread
Hi Musers, and happy Sunday 😃 I hope those of you in a place with clear skies enjoyed the beauty of the new moon last night. In my last post, I decided to change from the Growth section of Chelsey Pippin Mizzi’s Tarot Spreads Yearbook to the Change section.
As I explained, I am not in a place where growth is a possibility and things damn well need to change. I was feeling battered emotionally so I decided to try the spirit spread which is 4 or 5 spreads in. However, I do have a very deep-seated need for, and love of order. I think it was my often chaotic home life growing up that makes me long to have everything organised and under control.
So, I’ve decided I should return to the start of the section and do the intention spread. Yesterday was a new supermoon in Pisces and the new moon is the perfect time in the lunar cycle for setting intentions it feels like this plan just perfectly aligns. Oh, and in case you were wondering, a supermoon is when the moon is at the closest point to earth and so it often looks bigger and brighter.
New Moon Spread
Before I share my spread with you, I should confess I have already done a new moon spread. It’s a more general spread but does deal with setting intentions for the new moon. It advised letting my vulnerable side show a little more and I’ll be keeping this in mind as I do this spread. If you want to see the spread in full, its on my Instagram page
How I Draw My Cards
I don’t have one way to draw cards as some readers do. My sister likes fanning out the cards in front over her and then moving her hand slowly back and forth til one feels right. I do any and all of these things:
- I shuffle and cut the deck, picking my cards from the lower pile
- I shuffle and choose the cards the jump or stick out
- I use my pendulum to choose the right card
- I shuffle and draw them right off the top
In this case though, the book instructs me how to draw the cards. The Tower card represents upheaval and sudden, often unwanted, change. I have to shuffle, the turn over cards to find The Tower. The card directly before it is the card I need to choose. I then return The Tower to the deck, and repeat the process until I have three cards.
The Spread
- A Change I Wish To Make Within Myself This Season – Three of Scepters. This is the card of embarkation, starting on a new journey. It can be a literal journey but I see it as a spiritual one for this new moon. I am currently reading Dr Sharon Blackie’s book If Women Rose Rooted and it is incredibly powerful. In it she talks about women getting lost in our fight for equality with men. That we often believe that equality is competing successfully in a man’s world, to make our own Hero’s Journey. We are NOT men though and our power as women is very different. Dr Blackie proposes instead that we women embark on a Heroine’s Journey to reconnect us with the earth and our stories which have gotten twisted and lost over time. I want the change I make to use Dr Blackie’s Rooted Woman Oracle to begin my Heroine’s Journey and reconnect to my authentic self and to Mother Earth.
- A Change I Wish To Make For My Community This Season – The Priestess. I take a slightly different view on this card for this spread. I already have this blog and post on Instagram and perhaps the change I want to make for my community is to remind women of the power we hold. Traditionally, particularly in Celtic cultures, we were guardians of the land, inextricably linked with its wellbeing. I may need to make this more of a focus in my postings and also share my progress on my journey.
- How I Can Be Resilient In The Face Of Change This Season – Seven of Grails. I need to remember there are countless options open to me. I should try to choose the correct one, the one that is meant for me, but If I choose wrong it will rarely be a catastrophe. Instead, I can use it as an opportunity to learn and gain useful experience before choosing a new path or goal.
See You Soon
I hope you enjoyed my new moon intention spread and if you found anything that hit home for you, you are more than welcome to it. Alternatively, if you have your own thoughts or interpretations, please pop them in the comments. Love, hugs and positive thoughts xx
