5 Health Company Lies To Ditch In 2023

Today I’m going to share health company lies that they trot out each new year to make you part with your money. This is a hot topic for me, so the language may get a little fruity! None of the lies here will be groundbreaking or a huge surprise. I just want one voice to speak out against the BS.

I may have mentioned before that Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year. I love the beautiful lights on the tree, the decorations, the food and the fact that people are generally just a bit happier. What I am not a big fan of is what comes after Christmas. Once Christmas and New Year are out of the way, then it’s back to work. The lights disappear. The weather is cold, dark, and miserable, and life seems a little more difficult. A little sadder.

Enter Health Company Lies Stage Left

The double whammy of this time of year is the number of adverts for new diet and exercise plans. It truly is bonanza time for these industries. When they know they can get as much of your money away from you and into their grubby little paws as possible. It’s when all the health company lies come out to party. It’s wrong, and it makes me furious enough to scream out loud.

There would be anger about lots of different things within that scream. Firstly anger for what they did to me. About how bad these people made me feel and how much money they got out of me over the years—wasted money. I also feel absolute fury at the thought of how many people they’ve told are not good enough as they are and made feel bad about themselves. The way they affected people’s self-esteem and feelings of self-worth purely to line their own pockets, the selfish unscrupulous bastards!

So today, I’m begging you, do not give in to their propaganda. You are worthy and beautiful and enough just as you are. Changing yourself on the outside will never change how you feel about yourself on the inside. Believe me, I know! I wasted most of my life since I was a teenager trying. It is not the path to self-love. Self-love comes from within, not without.

Lie 1 – You Put On Lots Of Weight At Christmas

Lies, lies, lies! Utter bullshit! This is one of the biggest health company lies. Studies have shown that most people gain 1-2 pounds over Christmas, and that’s it! However, let’s say you buck the trend and gain…FIVE POUNDS!!! Is it the end of the world? Really? Is a massive course correction required? No, and I’ll tell you why. The body does it itself!

I don’t know about you, but after all the rich food at Christmas, my body is screaming for something lighter by January. I honestly begin to drool at the thought of steamed salmon and veggies. All you need to do is listen to your body.

Lie 2 – You Need To Start A Hardcore Exercise Regime

Exercise is insanely good for you. We all know it, even if we don’t do it as much as we should. However, as I pointed out above, you’ve likely only gained a couple of pounds over Christmas. It does not require military-style beastings at boot camp to put right.

If you’ve been meaning to start an exercise routine and have chosen new year, then great, but please, please start slowly. Exercise only works if you actually do it; unfair, I know! There’s no point going from 0-60 in two seconds and ending up so sore you can’t move for a week. Whatever you decide to do, start gently and gradually build up.

Lie 3 – You Need To Join A Gym To Get Results

Nope. Sorry gyms, but you won’t be getting my money this year! Many people get fantastic results without ever setting foot in the gym. If you like the gym and membership will keep you exercising, then that’s fine; you do you. If you’re like my sister, who has sworn she will never set foot in another gym as long as she lives, that’s good too! Jayne does yoga, I do online dance classes, and I go for walks. It’s all exercise. Pick something you don’t mind doing or, better yet, enjoy! Trust me; you’ll get much better results.

Lie 4 – To Get The Best Results, You Need X Product

Another health company lie designed to empty your pockets and pad their bottom line. You do not need milkshakes, protein shakes, vibrating hula hoops, new trainers, special meals or expensive memberships to become healthier. Eat more fruit and veg daily, go for a walk, meditate, play with a dog or cat, hug a loved one and get more sleep. All of these things will cause a marked improvement in your health and protect your bank balance.

Lie 5 – You Need To Change

If you take nothing else away from this article, let it be this…you do not need to change! You are more than a body and so much more than how you look. I bet if you asked your friends or family what they love most about you, your physical attributes would barely get a look-in. They’ll talk about how funny you are, how kind, you’re always putting others first, you’re a great cook, you produce fabulous craft items, and so on.

You are a wonderful person, exactly as you are today, and the sooner you genuinely believe that the happier and more at peace you will be. I’ve made the journey, and I promise it’s true. I hope you choose to ditch health company lies make the journey with me ❤️

I write this blog to let people suffering with body image issues, mental health problems and trauma know they’re not alone. Lately, though, my mental and physical health haven’t been great.
